Deep into the transformation.

My whole body hurts. Painting a bathroom, it turns out, is a lot harder job than I thought it would be. It's all primed now and ready for some new color.

On a last minute whim, I decided to go with the lightest color on the paint swatch I'd chosen. Previously, I was going to use the second-lightest. But after I got all that stark white primer on the walls, I was a little shocked at how much more OPEN the space seemed! My bathroom is tiny, people. (I just measured! It's 5'x7.5'!!! Holy cripey that is tiny!) I hadn't realized how dark that ugly purple was. So, I got scared and didn't want to put an as equally deceptively dark color on the walls, and opted to go for one shade lighter. I opened the paint can and looked at it, and it looks... well, a little TOO pink. Hopefully it will go on the walls better. The color is called "Mauve Tinge," and that's pretty much what it looks like.

But yeah, um, I hurt??? Painting behind the toilet was pretty difficult. Luckily I am a tiny person and have tiny hands, though.

Also, I learned my lesson on painting a smooth, vinyl surface. You can't use nappy rollers!! This seems obvious and kind of duh, but it didn't occur to me until I tried to use one and was left with a textured, nubbly surface. I guess it's just a rule that you can't paint a room without having to run to a hardware store for unexpected supplies.

I'm planning on tackling the rest of it tomorrow! Many pictures will follow. I'm really glad I decided to do this; it already looks SO much better in there.

Also, I've began considering the rest of the immediate transformation (new light fixture, new cabinet hardware, etc.). I found this light fixture at Target:

What do you think? Not a bad price, and it looks kinda 50s-ish.

It's cute, but for that price you have a lot of choices. I'd say that's actually pretty pricey for a two-light fixture.

Also, with a bathroom that small, make sure it's UL rated for damp locations.

We've been looking for bathroom lights, and I wasn't finding anything I really liked, so I started looking for outdoor fixtures to use. There are a lot of cool modern ones that would look nice in a bathroom.
